WSTA 2023 Candidate Statements

Vice President

Colum Malec: I solemnly swear to continue to execute the duties, obligations, and responsibilities of the Vice President of WSTA to the best of my ability in advocacy and action, of all WSTA members who strive to support our students. Thank you.

Amber Bradley: I have served WSTA proudly as an Executive Board member and a Site Representative since I joined the district in 2016. I am dedicated to improving public education in California and would be honored to have your support for the role of Vice President of WSTA.

Annie Cole: I have served dutifully as WSTA Treasurer for the past 6 years, and participated actively as a Site Rep the year before. I hope to continue on the WSTA E-board in the secretary position to help lead and organize our team and our members, serving WUSD educators and students.”

Executive Board

Michelle Mejia-Hays: As a veteran teacher of 24 years and experienced WSTA Site Rep, I bring historical and institutional knowledge to help inform decisions. Looking to make connections with colleagues and serve my union, I’m humbled by the opportunity to be on E-board and will work towards making WSTA stronger.

Deanna Trujillo-Chrisman: It has been a privilege to serve you over the last two years and I would like the opportunity to continue the work! I am proud to represent the professionals of WUSD and feel it’s important to be a voice of change.”

Anti-Racist Reading List

WSTA recognizes that racism exists overtly and subtly and is institutionalized broadly in American culture, business, and government.

In an effort to facilitate powerful discussions and more structured educational opportunities, we are offering a list of anti-racist resources for teachers compiled by one of our members, Stephanie Kugler.

As educators, we have the responsibility to step out and promote change that is necessary to provide an equitable future for our students.
